Channel Name does not match Artist Name
Linking your YouTube channel to your artist profile on DistroKid is an important step in building a professional music presence online. One of the key requirements for this process is ensuring that your channel name matches your artist name exactly. This alignment helps platforms like YouTube correctly identify and merge your content into an Official Artist Channel, giving you better visibility and credibility.
To successfully match your channel name with your artist name and link them through DistroKid, you need to follow a structured approach:
First, ensure that your artist name in DistroKid is identical to your YouTube channel name. Even small differences—such as spacing, capitalization, or extra words—can prevent proper linking. If your channel name does not match, you should update it through YouTube Studio under the customization settings.

Next, you must distribute at least one music release via DistroKid and make sure YouTube Music is selected as a distribution platform. This step is essential because it creates a “topic channel” for your music, which will later be merged with your main YouTube channel.

After your music is live, you can request an Official Artist Channel through DistroKid’s “Special Access” section. During this process, you will submit your YouTube channel URL along with your artist name. If everything matches correctly, YouTube will review your request and, upon approval, convert your channel into an Official Artist Channel.

Once approved, your channel will display a music note icon, automatically include your releases, and unify your content under one professional identity. This improves discoverability and provides a more organized experience for your audience.
