1. Download and Install Winbox
- Visit the official MikroTik website: https://mikrotik.com/download
- Scroll down to the Winbox section and download the latest version.
- No installation needed – it’s a portable app. Just run the
.exe
file.

After you have downloaded, click to run directly

2. Connect Your Computer to the MikroTik Router
- Use an Ethernet cable to connect your PC directly to one of the router’s LAN ports.
- Make sure your PC is set to obtain an IP address automatically via DHCP (or use a static IP in the router’s subnet, e.g.,
192.168.88.1
).

Connect the Mikrotik router to your Computer. You can use the LAN Port to log in to the configuration of the Mikrotik router.

Then, go to check your PC by setting the PC Ethernet port to DHCP. We do this so the PC can obtain an automatic IP address from your Mikrotik router. It will have the same IP rank.

And make sure your PC can get the DHCP from the Mikrotik Router or not by going to => Run => typing “cmd” in Run and Enter

From the Command Prompt write type ipconfig and enter

Below is the IP address range with your Mikrotik router 192.168.88.253

So you can ping test your Mikrotik router IP address: 192.168.88.1 before logging in to it. By writing: ping 192.168.88.1 (see that ping successful)

3. Launch Winbox
- Open the Winbox application.
- If your router is connected properly, it should appear in the Neighbors list automatically.

Go to your Winbox that you downloaded and double click to run

4. Choose Your Router
- Select your router’s MAC address or IP address from the list.
- If it doesn’t appear, click Refresh.
- Note: if your Mikrotik is new, the default IP address of the Mikrotik router is 192.168.88.1/24. So if your computer cannot get the DHPC IP address. You can reset the Mikrotik router to its it has get default IP address.

5. Enter Your Login Credentials
- Default username:
admin
- Default password: (leave blank, if it’s a new device)
- Click Connect.
6. Start Configuring!
- Once logged in, you’ll have access to all of MikroTik’s configuration options, including interfaces, firewall, wireless settings, DHCP, and more. When you log in to Mikrotik for theyou first time, it will alert you to Remove Configuration. You can click on Remove Configuration or click on OK is no problem.

🔐 Tips for Security
- Change the default username and set a strong password immediately after you log in to your MikroTik router using Winbox.
- Disable MAC Winbox access if you only use IP-based connections.
- Keep your firmware updated.
