These serious violations by the Thai military are concerning. The Cambodian Joint Border Committee (JBC) calls for immediate action. Their goal is to address the Thai military’s violations of Cambodia’s territorial integrity. They also aim to address the breach of international law. The activities of the Thai military not only undermine the stability and trust between our two nations. They also disregard the agreements outlined in the 2000 MOU.
The actions of the Thai military are illegal. This includes the unilateral occupation of land. It occurs through the installation of barriers, barbed wire, and tires. They are also provocative. They undermine the spirit of cooperation. This cooperation has characterized past efforts in border management.
The Cambodian Joint Border Committee (JBC) has protested against the Thai military’s violations of Cambodian territorial integrity. The Thai military has violated Cambodian territory by erecting barbed wire. They have also placed nets, barriers, and vehicles on the border line. This happened in Sok Sang and Prey Chan villages. These villages are in O Bei Choan commune, O Chrov district, Banteay Meanchey province. The Joint Border Committee of Cambodia (JBC) wishes to protest the Thai military’s violations of the following strongly:
1. The Thai military set up barbed wire between border posts 46 and 47 in the Sast area. This is in Sok Sang Village, O Bei Chon Commune, O Chrov District, Banteay Meanchey Province. They also placed nets, barriers, and tires on August 12, 2025. This section of the border line is where border posts 46 and 47 are located.
2. Between border posts 42 and 43 in the Sast area, Prey Chan village. O Bei Choan commune, O Chrov district. Banteay Meanchey province. The Thai military set up barbed wire, nets, barriers, and tires on August 13, 2025.
3. On August 14, 2025, the Thai military attempted to spread barbed wire and tires. This activity occurred at the Boeung Trakuan border gate area. This event took place in the Kok Romyat commune, Thma Puok district. It occurred in the Banteay Mean Rith and Thanal Raek villages of Banteay Meanchey province. The Thai military observed the presence of Cambodian citizens and forces. Foreign military attachés were also observing the area. Therefore, the Thai military decided to stop the activity. Consequently, they decided to retreat from the border, avoiding further Thai Military’s Violations Cambodia.
The Thai military has occupied land unilaterally. They installed barbed wire, fences, and tires on the border section mentioned above. This action violates the spirit of the 2000 MOU and international law. It especially infringes on the jurisdiction of the Joint Border Committee (JBC). This action undermines the results of past efforts. It also compromises the negotiation process of the Joint Border Committee (JBC) of the two countries.
The Cambodian Joint Border Committee (JBC) demands the immediate removal of barbed wire, tires, and nets. These objects result from the Thai military’s illegal activities. Moreover, we seek to prevent such illegal activities from occurring again along the border between the two countries.
In light of these Thai military’s violations, the Cambodian Joint Border Committee (JBC) makes a demand. They request the immediate and unconditional removal of all obstacles. This includes the barbed wire, nets, and tires installed by the Thai military on the contested border areas. Additionally, we insist that all such illegal activities cease immediately. Measures should be taken to ensure that similar incidents do not recur.
The Cambodian government stands firm in protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity. We expect our Thai counterparts to respect the agreements. We also expect them to resolve these issues in accordance with international law and the Joint Border Committee’s established protocols.
